3 Ways to Find Joy in The Process

Hey YuBoss,

Do you ever feel like giving up?

Like what’s the point? You’re working hard everyday, trying to be everything to everyone, and doing your best to juggle a multidimensional life — only to feel like you’re losing yourself in the process.

Truth is, it’s normal to feel this way.

We’re living in a time where we’re trying to keep up (with the Kardashian’s — sorry I couldn’t resist!) — and we don’t even know who we are anymore.

Especially when experiencing a change or in a transition. Am I right?

Things like perfection paralysis, imposter syndrome, and any other terms you used to hear about (but not relate to) are becoming way too real.

All you want is deeper meaning and purpose in your life and there’s no easy answer.

Good news. I’m here to tell you that you’re on the right path. You can’t be on the wrong path of your life.

Maybe you could manage it a little (or A LOT) differently — but you’re in the place you’re supposed to be at this moment, and you must find joy in the process of getting to where you want to be.

You can’t wait to be happy after you achieve your goals, or you’ll be on a long road of discomfort. tweet this!

So here you are, allow joy to move you forward.

Here’s 3 tips to help you find joy in the process, that you can start today:

* Before we begin, write down your biggest goal that you currently have.

  1. Link your goal to your values. When you link your goals to what’s most important to you, joy can be felt as you’re striving forward. For example, if completing a marathon is your goal and you associate this to accomplishment, being healthy, strong, vitality, commitment and perseverance – and these are all really important values to you – then getting up at 5am to train in the rain and skipping out on happy hour drinks with friends, doesn’t feel so bad – in fact, you can find joy in it.
  2. Make your goal big enough for you to care. For example, ask yourself, “what would it feel like if I didn’t achieve this goal?” And if the answer isn’t gut wrenching, then it will be hard to see joy throughout the entire process. Think about it, in one year, you look back at your life today, and you didn’t take one single step toward your goal. If this doesn’t make you feel completely soul aching mad, than it probably isn’t worth it to you, and you’ll likely not stick to it. So you may want to choose a new, more important, goal.
  3. Choose how you want to feel. We were conditioned to think that IF we achieve something, THEN we will feel good. Now, you can see that joy and happiness is a choice, and that both can be felt throughout the process. This is the healthiest sustainable way of being, and will help you move toward achieving real, authentic success.
