How To Start Being Less Ordinary

I met with my new friend Emma for a tea and a chat yesterday — and before we were done, we came to a pretty big epiphany that I wanted to share.

Being two women who are fascinated by the topics of authentic truth, vulnerability and intention; we naturally fell into a conversation about life purpose and fulfillment. No surprises there!

I’m sure you can relate — and that you and your friends can easily get lost in Oprah style conversations like the rest of us.

Actually, this commonality is probably what sparked your interest in YUOLOGY in the first place 🙂

Okay, so back to tea with Emma.

We dove deep into typical introspective talk, like what we want to achieve in life/business, what we look for in relationships, and how we both coincidentally (and separately) partied on a small  island in Croatia called Hvar, and had major aha moments while there — but I’ll leave that for another post.

As we were chatting, I made a comment about being ordinary.

I said, “those who choose to be ordinary, have an easier life. They know what to expect, they stay in their comfort zone, and they don’t have to deal with failure as often as those who try new things.”

We both considered this for a minute, agreed and then smiled with an unspoken look of — “yeah, but that would be SO boring.”

You see, it’s easier to live an expected life that people may want you to live, however, you’ll never taste the sweet feeling of breaking out of what’s ordinary — and breaking into extra-ordinary!

In order to truly be who you were born to be, you have to face your fears of the unknown and challenge your ordinary. tweet this!

You have to redefine what it means to BE YOU at this stage of your life, determine what you stand for, and reinvent yourself with no boundaries.

I was excitedly feeling aligned with Emma and I told her, “you’re someone who won’t accept being ordinary” — and she coyly lifted up her sweater sleeve and showed me her tattoo. It said:

Live a life less ordinary.

How cool is that?! I’d never seen her tattoo, yet I could feel her desire to LIVE out her purpose.

In fact, we all have the desire, but only some will be brave enough to go for it.

It won’t always be easy and you can expect (quite a lot of) failures along the way — but you can be certain that you’ll never be left with regret.

So now the question is, what kind of person are you? Someone who will stay in the comforts of easy, or will you choose to authentically, be you?

The choice is yours — there’s no right or wrong answer — just one that will make you feel at peace with who you are.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. – Marianne Williamson

Once you’ve decided what what kind of person you want to be, I’d love to hear how this was for you.

What’s ONE thing you immediately want to change to be more extraordinary?
