Why Your Values Will Make You More Happy

I get a feeling every once in awhile.

I feel at ease, comfortable with my surroundings, and totally aligned with my soul.

I suppose it would be best summed up as being in my flow.

These moments typically include:

Connection > with people who light me up and who are open to me lighting them up ❤

Quality > including things like real conversations and authentic food, music, and aesthetic – basically nothing fake ??

Adventure > where I get to discover new places, get out of my comfort zone and have unique experiences ??

These are my values and I feel my best when I’m living in alignment with them.

When I’m not, I feel off and my intuition nudges me to make a change.

When I listen, I tend to get back on track and feel good quite seamlessly; and when I don’t, I experience things like anxiety, overwhelm, confusion sometimes even depressive emotions.

Like not wanting to get out of bed in the morning, or looking forward to the end of the day — so I can get back into bed.

This is why it’s SO important that you know your values — so you can continue to make choices that are aligned with who you are — and avoid the ones that aren’t.

It’s so important for the overall well-being of every single person to know their values, which essentially is, your essence — or your authenticity, for those who get turned off by abstract words like essence.

Happiness isn’t the goal, as it’s not a sustainable feeling.

But knowing who you are is — and once you do — you’ll find that it’s much easier to find your flow with clarity and confidence, and you’ll be able to get back on track much faster when you’re at a crossroad or facing a major change in your life.

Take the time to get to know YOU, it’s the greatest gift you can give yourself and all the people in your life.

My goal is to have more moments like this. Where I feel aligned with my soul. This time it was at a small cafe on a beach in Ibiza, with a friend I love, listening to music that danced with my soul, eating local food, drinking an espresso and discussing all our takeaways from the personal development workshop we had just attended. It ticked off all my values and I was at peace.

I think it’s time to cultivate more magic like this.  You agree?

Are you ready to start living in alignment with YOU?

Here’s 3 tips to get started:

  1. Think of a time where you felt alive. Your blood was pumping, you were excited to jump out of bed in the morning and you didn’t want it to end.
  2. Journal about this experience in as much detail as possible. Who was there? What were you doing? How did you feel? Where were you?
  3. Read what you wrote and pull out 3 to 5 values. What part of your personality was being expressed? How do you know this was a moment you LOVE? How were you honouring who you are in that experience?

Reflecting on this experience and pulling out words to describe your “happy” time, will help you define your values. Then you can start making choices that are aligned with them, and STOP doing the things (the relationships, jobs, home, routine etc) that aren’t.

This is just a quick exercise to tap into your essence, and of course there’s much deeper work that you can do to get more clarity.

Like, YUOLOGY,  the study of you — for example 😉

Once you’ve come up with your values, I’d love to hear how this was for you.

What’s ONE change you’re going to make to be more aligned?
